The Red Hat Society Wants You!
This circle of friends is comprised of women 60 and older. The suggested attire is a red hat and a purple outfit. It is, however, required to have as much fun as possible! The group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Milford Senior Center. Check the newsletter for details on the monthly meetings.
The Golden Youth Technology Club is a group of volunteers from the Milford High School that will be providing lessons on how to use your electronic gadgets. Please call the Senior Center for details and to set up an appointment.
On May 16, the Center Book Group met to discussKristin Hannah's The Nightingale. It was a smaller group (8 participants) than usual as several members were traveling. However, those who couldn't be there raved about the book as did everyone at the table. Set in France, during World War II, The Nightingale pulls you into the story of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle and their wrenching experiences
Vianne, the older sister lives in the countryside, her husband goes off to fight in the French Army, her best friend is Jewish and sent to a concentration camp, Nazi officers board at her home, and she helps hide Jewish children with nuns. Isabelle, younger, beautiful and fearless joins the Resistance and guides British and American soldiers who've been shot down by the Germans across a dangerous, route to safety in Spain. She is the Nightingale referred to in the title. This description doesn't do the book justice as the book takes you on an emotional journey. A film adaptation is in the works. Five stars
