The Floating World by C. Morgan Babst
We had 12 people for the discussion of The Floating World.
Reaction to C. Morgan Babst's debut novel, The Floating World was mixed.
Set in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, it explores the storm's impact and consequences for the Boisderé family. Some participants disliked the book altogether, some liked the writing and character development while still finding it told in a disjointed way. Babst herself is a native of New Orleans and while she evacuated before Katrina, she has her protagonist Cora Boisderé remaining behind. Cora does what she can to save herself and others and as a result suffers from severe PTSD. Ironically, the book's publication last year coincided with Hurricane Harvey attacking Houston and Hurricane Maria devastating Puerto Rico.

Support Group for
Low Vision/Blind Adults
The Milford Senior Center is looking for low vision/blind adults.
Residents from surrounding towns are also welcome, but would need to provide their own transportation to the center.
Topics for discussion will include chores and routines; locating organizations that sell devices that can lead to increased independence and better communications; sharing common concerns, frustrations, and stories; and finding solutions to vision-related difficulties. This support group can make daily living easier. Low vision or blindness does not have to stop us from living.
